Most of the makeup products are banned in the country.

Red lipstick is a big 'NO' 

Red lipstick is considered to be a symbol of capitalism hence it's banned in the country.

What is allowed 

Most women in North Korea are only allowed to wear a light lip colour on their lips, but never red.

Patrolling parties to check makeup

North Korean streets have patrolling parties to crackdown on women who are dressed inappropriately or wearing loud makeup.

Hair dyes are also banned

No woman in North Korea can dye or colour her hair as it is anti-establishment.

Hair has to be neat 

Women can't leave their hair open, they need to tie the hair up neatly.

Accessories are also not allowed

One can't wear accessories like chains or rings either.

Only cosmetics made in North Korea are allowed.
