An unhealthy scalp can block hair follicles due to excess dirt, oil, and build-up from sweat, which results in inflammation, severe itching, and even dandruff.
Some of the symptoms of an unhealthy scalp include itching, redness, flakiness, irritation and excessive hair loss. Dr Geetika Mittal, a dermatologist, listed five ways to achieve a healthy scalp.
Use a scalp scrub to remove dead skin cells, product build-up, dirt and excess oil gathered at the root of your hair.
Wash your hair regularly-every two to three days to avoid an itchy or oily scalp.
Use clean and gentle hair products. They won't strip your hair of natural oils and will help in healthy hair growth.
Use a medicated shampoo to control dandruff and avoid an itchy and flaky scalp.
It is advisable to take an omega-3 fatty acid supplement as it provides essential protein and nutrients to hair follicles.
